LFPME held its first fringe event at the Scottish Labour Party conference in Inverness on Friday 19th April 2013. The debate was entitled Achieving Peace and Justice in the Middle East: "What should Labour's policy be?" and the panelists included:
Douglas Alexander MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary
Margaret Curran MP, Shadow Scottish Secretary
Anas Sarwar MP, Deputy Leader
Drew Smith MSP, Co-Convenor for Cross Party Group on Palestine
The debate was chaired by Pauline McNeill, former MSP and Chair of the Middle East and North Africa Forum. Each speaker spoke about the importance for the Labour Party to adopt policies that will uphold international law and ensure peace and justice can be achieved with action rather then simply words. The debate was opened up to the audience and several contributions were made from the floor.
The well attended event provided a good opportunity to raise the issue of 'Palestine' and the work of LFPME among Scottish Labour members.
